Separation of church and state: I get it, I’m for it, I’m not even questioning it. But I don’t get the separation of science and church.

A Lifestyle of BusynessJune 17, 2008
By Anita Higman
No matter how many time-saving gadgets I have in my kitchen or how many yard jobs I hire out, my schedule is still packed. Even when I’m having a devotion time on my patio glider, I find myself plucking dead blossoms off the potted roses. My motto should be “Chores, Never Snores!” Why is that? I think the answer is in creating a lifestyle of busyness. In other words, if I’d been living in New Testament times, I would’ve been Martha, the one who Jesus gently admonishes for whirling around the kitchen while the wiser Mary sat at His feet listening. I can hear Jesus whispering to me, “Anita, Anita, you are worried about many things, but only one thing is important. Rest awhile. I’m here. Listen to me.” I do know from personal experience that the times I finally stopped fidgeting with those dead blossoms, I was able to hear His sweet voice and I could see His vision for me more clearly. It’s those quiet glider moments, spent in His presence, that are the most precious life-moments of all — when goals become divinely guided, when hearts calm their frantic beating, and when a lifestyle of busyness is exchanged for the peace which surpasses all understanding. Luke 10: 41-42: “Martha, Martha, the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” (NIV) Anita Higman would love for you to visit her website at www.anitahigman.com. |
