The Oscars! What a night! Is there any other business that routinely congratulates itself on being itself?
So I sit in a hotel in Seward Alaska minding my own business, when suddenly it dawns on me. … I am making a movie!
When I was young, the TV had rabbit ears, the cool video game was Pong, and we talked on rotary phones. So how's a mother to raise her kids in the Digital Age?

I was just reading an article on stupid state laws and came across this one: In New Jersey, it is illegal to wear a bulletproof vest while committing a murder.

Here’s a Thought: Bully For You, Part 2

The staff and head writer at Here’s a Thought want to thank Mike Meehan, Democratic operative (another word for “bully”) and member of the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) appointed by President Obama, for his actions on the last night.

Clearly Mr. Meehan had read the latest Here’s a Thought column, Bully For You, and wanted to show NCV readers exactly what a bully is, how he works and what he does. Thank you, Mr. Meehan! You acted just like a thug from the political theater in Chicago! Very convincing! You played the part of a bully very well: dumb, arrogant, picking on someone smaller and stifling the truth! We couldn’t have planned something more perfect!

Mr. Meehan attacked John McCormack, a “reporter” (another word for “wimp”?) for the Weekly Standard, as he tried to question Massachusetts Senatorial candidate Martha Coakley who left a fundraiser somewhere in Washington, D.C Tuesday night.

(What was she doing in Washington, D.C. while the seat she is running for in Massachusetts, which has been owned – that is the perfect word – by Democrats forever, is up for grabs?)

Meehan has clearly taken this “bully” persona to heart. A member of the BBG, that group is essentially an outgrowth of the Freedom of Information Act. Their mission statement:

“Through The FOIA (Freedom of Information Act), Congress made it clear that the public has the right to know what its government is doing, for an informed public is vital to democracy.”

Unless, as Mr. Meehan has made PAINFULLY clear, you don’t agree with the current administration and the Democratic Party. Then you get punched to the street!

You’ve given us great video and a perfect analogy, Mr. Meehan!

Word is that you’ll be stealing purses from little old ladies, taking candy from children and being promoted to “Bully Czar” next. Please forward this video, too!

[NOTE: The confrontation is partially captured in the video below at about the 1:40 mark, most visible is Meehan continuing to accost McCormack after knocking him to the ground in an obvious attempt to physically keep him from Coakley.]

Bullies

Unfortunately, you are right on, Taylor, and like you say, Mr. Meehan is a perfect example of a modern bully. (Ironically, The Weekly Standard, the employer of the reporter, Mr. McCormack, headlined one of their recent magazines with a story about the coarsening of American public life.) And that is the way the Dems are running Congress now - if you don't like it, TOUGH!, because we have the power and we are going to ram our policies down your throat, be it the monstrous healthcare bill which nobody wants or the global warming tax bill (AKA the Chinese full employment bill) which will do nothing except increase our energy costs and put more money in Al Gore's wallet. And all for what? To possibly - POSSIBLY! - prevent the sea level from rising an extra six inches over the next fifty years. That does not seem to be a clear and present danger to me, at least not one worth doubling my energy bills.

In everyday life, it is that way, too. Be it on the roads where bullies think that they have the right to the space my car is currently occupying - especially those guys in the Lexuses and Mercedes who do not think that they should have to wait in line - or the cashiers at the grocery store who do not care if I am there or not. I am sad to say this, but I am always surprised when I am treated with courtesy by anyone.

Remember the assertiveness training seminars that were big back in the eighties and nineties? They intimated that you could only get what you want in life by forcing your attentions on others whether they wanted them or not. Perhaps the modern bully scourge is the fruit of that movement. It is a far cry from the Biblical parable - I forget the book - where we are counseled to seat ourselves at the lowest table and let the Master lead us to a better spot at the banquet. Paul the Apostle also counseled us to consider others more important than ourselves, but these days, that seems like a recipe for getting stepped on frequently. It is very difficult to be meek and humble in modern America, but our Lord told us not to be surprised that we would have such trouble. Nevertheless, we are not to worry because He has overcome the world and all will be made right in the end.
