Here's a Thought: Death by Cancer
By Taylor Mason
My sister-in-law passed away last Thursday, felled by cancer after a seven-year battle. She was a dignified, lovely, inspiring wife and mother who beat the odds over and over again.

Here’s a Thought: Hot Enough for Ya?
By Taylor Mason
The heat was debilitating this summer, so much so that the word “hot” doesn’t do justice to the grades of temperature we've sweated these past few months.

American Idol Top 8: Scott MacIntyre Goes Home
April 9, 2009 10:19 AM EDT — Joanne Brokaw -...
It was the end of the road last night on American Idol for Scott MacIntyre. Joining him in the bottom three were Anoop Desai and Lil Rounds. Ryan said that of the 34 million votes cast, only 30,000 separated Anoop and Scott, which probably doesn't bode well for Anoop next week. Scott's swan song last night was much, much better than this performance on Wednesday, and the judges actually looked like they were debating about using the save. Simon said two judges wanted to keep him, but as the clock ticked down he had to make a decision, and he sent Scott ome. I don't think Scott was one of the strongest singers in the competition, but he was inspiring, entertaining and a really joyful addition to the show. I'm sure he'll find much success as a speaker and entertainer. And then there were 7! Joanne Brokaw is the host of the Gospel Soundcheck blog at Beliefnet.com. She's blogging about American Idol at NewChristianVoices.com. Check back every week for new posts and Idol updates!

American Idol goes porno
I CANNOT believe you failed to notice or comment on the performance by FloRida, which was completely obscene in content. We were completely caught off guard and extremely disgusted when we sat down to watch Wednesday's recorded show on Sunday evening. Hello?! I would hope that someone like you would have the wherewithall to speak for those who love Jesus (which is what I thought the point of your website was) and take a stand against Fox obliterating the boundaries of decency! Do you want to explain to my grandchildren what that song means? Hmm? Do you think it's ok? True, it's not illegal, but then neither are a lot of things that lend themselves to moral decay...ESPECIALLY in a forum targeted directly AT young teenagers! Wake up and smell the coffee!!
